Assignment #4 à
Studying Habits

1.

I
believe that I follow the study tips in the textbook very well. I do my best
not to schedule classes back to back even though sometimes you can’t avoid it.
I establish a study routine in which I have specific times to study for each
class so that I study an equal amount of time for each. I have a place I enjoy
studying (outside) because it’s peaceful and calming. I always schedule breaks
during my study time otherwise I burn out and lose focus on the material. I try
my best to find a classmate to study with but sometimes that doesn’t always
work out because I am a commuter and most students are residents. Finally, I
always make sure I take care of myself and don’t focus too much on studying. I
make sure I take care of my emotional, physical, and financial needs first. By
having myself and my life all set and taken care of I am able to focus more
clearly on my studies.

2.

My favorite place
to study is probably one of the places I shouldn’t but I find it to be the most
peaceful place, and that’s outside. I love to find a comfortable spot to sit,
relax, and review my notes. I also use this space and time to complete
assignments and study for upcoming quizzes or tests. However, when studying
outside I am easily distracted.

The other day
while studying on a bench on the Eastern Campus, I kept track of all the things
that distracted me from my assignments and thus caused me to have to study even
longer so I could complete those tasks. The things that distracted me the most
were the people walking by, I always had to look up, the squirrels and birds, I
find them entertaining so I always find myself watching them, and while outside
I easily drift off into a daydream, forgetting I’m supposed to be studying.
This caused my normal one hour study break to take around an hour and a half.

There is an
obvious way to eliminate these distractions and that is by removing myself from
the outdoors and forcing myself to find someplace indoors, such as the library
or study room, to complete my school assignments. Another way would be to have
headphones and listen to music so that I could not hear the birds or people
walking by therefore they would distract me less. Listening to music helps me
focus, so this would be a good way to eliminate other distractions.

This
is the studying schedule I follow on a weekly basis. By setting specific study
times for each class I am taking, I provide myself with adequate time to
complete assignments and adequate time to study. I have found this schedule to
work very well and I complete all assignments and/or studying 75-80 percent of
the time. I hope to use this schedule for upcoming semesters because it has
worked very well for me thus far.

Reflection

A. While completeting this assignment I learned that I follow a pretty good studying schedule. However I did learn a lot of tips for studying properly and how to keep information in my memory. I learned that cramming is BAD!!

B. I did not find this assignment particularily enjoyable. It was just an easy assignment and did not cause any difficulties.

C. This was not a challenging task therefore I did not find anything challenging.
